Those of you who can remember Tom’s accident last year may be interested to hear our good news. After six months of hard work, his hand has healed incredibly well, and last week, the physios and surgeons finally signed him off — no more operations needed! While the circulation is terrible, and there is very little feeling (Tom says it feels like he’s wearing a glove made of bacon) the hand’s mobility has improved dramatically and compared to the bloodied stump it was six months ago, its transformation is truly amazing. Thanks to Livingston’s fine surgeons and physios, and Tom’s determination with his exercises, the outlook is very good!
Meanwhile, you may be interested to see what’s on the knitting horizon. . .
The lovely weather badges are made by Mark Pawson (thanks, Mark). The knitted something is made by me. . .
Good news, indeed. Tell him to persevere with the exercises. And yes, I’m sure a bit of baking is probably v good therapy.

I am so pleased. I had been thinking about you two. I will be starting my orthopaedics placement in three weeks and am planning to investigate what you referred to as the ‘tethering’ of the tendon (although I’m sure you’ve asked all the orthopods about this yourselves). I hope there will be more bread-baking and mead-making to celebrate!

Great news about Tom’s hand! The first photo of the knitted something looks a bit like the great white horse at Uffington. You may say that it doesn’t look much like a horse – but then neither does the actual white horse.

Oh, that’s simply superb news about Tom’s hand. I’m told that nerve regeneration can take up to a couple of years, so the ‘gloved’ feeling may go away. I have my fingers crossed very hard for those nerves!
(Gorgeous sky-like knitting, btw. Where did you get that yarn? Can’t wait to see the whole thing!)

At the risk of being the vulgar American who “just doesn’t get” the beauty in the details; You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you!

Great news. And healing after nerve damage is a funny thing. I well remember comparing notes with other post Caesarean mothers and we could all still feel nothing around the incision scar for months or years later. A really weird numbness. Then one day a large child sits on you and you realise all the feeling has come back!

Lovely news about Tom’s hand – very pleased for both of you. Look forward to the complete unveiling of your knitting project – the i-cord is unsurprising given your recent raves about the technique, but I’m at a loss to work out what the whole piece might be!

Good news indeed! (Though the thought of a glove made of bacon makes me feel quite queasy!) Intrigued by the knitting – hmm could it be related to The Knitting Forecast?

stumpy west says hello, and reminds stumpy east that stumpy west’s phantom phantom pains (no limbs were lost, but there was pain in space nevertheless, a form of the bacon glove syndrome) and carpal farpal and tingly badness simply fell away one day as stumpy and i were working out. it pays. we’re so proud of our little caledonian bro!!!! onward and downward!
