You heart Shetland? Sigh… me too (well, except for the 12-hour ferry journey, but there’s always flying). Just got back; can’t wait to return – though when it comes to birds, especially noisy ones, I’d bet on amorous eider drakes.

Loving your photos! Especially the puffins, possibly my favorite “shore” bird. Don’t they make a terrific noise? I found a recording of their call online, played it with the volume on high and just about scared the fur off the cats! God times….

I know an old mortar when I see one, thanks to my trip to Shetland several years ago. Can’t wait to return! Thank you!

I love the Shetland Islands too – although have only ever been there once, very briefly. Your photos are superb.

Someday I shall make it to the Shetland Islands and pet a SHETLAND PONY! :) I have two of my pony pettings down so far – made it to Chincoteague & Assateague Islands here in the USA and got to pet a pony just like Misty of Chincoteague, and a friend owned a Fjord. On my list still are Shetland, Dartmoor, Exmoor, and Iceland. (No scientific list, this, just pony breeds mentioned in books I loved when I was a little girl)

My family laughs at me but feeds my obsession at the same time! Hee.

And another goal is to get to the Orkney ISlands to the ornithological conservncy. Gah! Unemployment, why must you crush my dreams!
