Apologies if you have been trying to contact me over the past few days – I’ve not been keeping up with email because I’ve been feeling ropey, and it turns out that I have a quinsy. As I am used to feeling ropey, and have never had any sort of tonsillitis before, I had no idea that this was what was going on. Anyway, it’s back to bed with me.

I feel your pain. I’ve had quinsy twice (once was enough, thank you very much), so I know how indescribably excruciating it is. I hope you’re on the mend, and feeling better soon.

Hope you’re feeling better now! I’m catching up on my blog reading after being away. I’m feeling ropey myself though as I have an ulcer on my tonsil which is causing my ear to hurt quite a lot :(

I think it’s time for us to send you messages!!!!! Hope that your feeling better and can enjoy some much deserved time off – from all of us, and deadlines, and expectations. I doubt that this is as enjoyable for you as it should be – but – you’ve been working your fanny off for the past year and deserve some time off…..when you feel good!!!!!

Kate – so sorry that you are poorly. Tonsillitis has reduced me to exhaustion in the past so you have my sympathy. This probably won’t help at all, but quinsy sounds so 18th century, so happy you are on a chaise longue being waited upon.

Well I’d never heard of Quinsy before so that comes under “you learn something new every day” Even though my tonsils and I parted ways over 50 years ago I remember what it felt like so I hope you’re feeling better. They’d try to cheer you up by pointing out that lovely cooling soothing ice-cream would be a menu feature so I hope that’s your “Pony” in this particular pile too.

Trust your quinsy has improved by now – nasty, even if it does sound rather Jane Austen and conjure up visions of people lying around in empire-line dresses on delicate sofas. Unfortunately the reality is rather different, but I hope it’s moderating… and dogs are very good for almost anything that’s wrong, after all.

I frequently had tonsillitis when I was a kid (and no longer have my tonsils) – I well remember the discomfort. Get well soon!!! :)

Hi Kate,your “ps this post is about me – Kate – not Bruce” very funny, as I look into Bruce’s eyes.
My late grandmother was of Irish decent and she used to call anything to do with the throat/neck glands “quinsy” to.
I hope you will soon feel much better. Maybe some nice herbal teas would be beneficial. I always throw a few rosehips in with my herbal teas, as it makes you feel as though you are doing just that little bit more to help your own recovery.

Sorry to read you are feeling crap. Have just downloaded and read Textisle. Loved every bit of it. Have also ordered and received a copy of English Smocks by Alice Armes. Interested to read on page 4 that in a village in Sussex (from whence I hale) “smocks are still worn at funerals by the bearers.” Sadly, she doesn’t say which village. Hope you feel better soon and I look forward to future editions.

I hope you get well soon, and recover at home. My cousin was in hospital a couple of times with quinsy until they finally took out her tonsils, not fun!

I was once married to man who suffered from tonsilitis quite a bit. He said it made him feel like “a bag full of arseholes”. I hope that made you smile. Get better.

Now that I’ve done a quick search of quinsy, I have to offer my sympathy! I do hope you get to feeling less ropey soon. Indulging in any number of frozen desserts ought to be soothing, as a previous commenter noted, and they do make icky sickness a little better, in my opinion.

Please take care of yourself and have a gooood long rest.This seems to be the perfect occasion to wind one of the lovely scarves you surely have around your neck, and also to eat as much ice cream as you wish – it helps the inflammation (believe me, I could write a book on tonsillitis ). Poor you – I had tonsillitis at least once a year as a child – but strangely I still have my tonsils – the doctor always said I should have them out, but unlike my sister and brother who had theirs out aged four, I kept mine!! The best treatment (apart from the obligatory amoxicillin) is icecream …. lots of icecream!!

Feel better soon, Kate! I have no idea what feeling “ropey” is, coming from the States, or what having a “quinsy” is, which I think is tonsillitis as I have been reading the other comments. My vocabulary has certainly increased with your blog! I am sure Bruce is taking good care of you, but any discomfort when you are working so hard to get well from a major illness, is really insult to injury. I wish you a speedy recovery from the minor scratches of life!
