Do you have any knitting needles to spare? KDD is currently supporting some local community groups who use craft as a tool to tackle social isolation and mental health and we need needles! We are able to provide yarn support, to share our skills, our patterns and ideas, but new knitters also need things to knit with – especially those for whom low income may be an impediment to learning a new craft. If you have any old, spare, or unused needles in the 3.5mm to 5.5mm range in your knitting toolkit, perhaps you might consider donating them for our use? Any needles – whether straights or circulars – would be gratefully received, but fixed circulars of any kind would be especially welcome.
If you are UK based, have spare needles to donate, and don’t mind popping them in the post, please contact us at info@katedaviesdesigns.com and we’ll let you know where to send them.
Thanks in advance.
Edited to add: we now have all the needles that we need. Thank you to everyone who has donated.

If you are still in need come fall I would be glad to jam a few circulars in my checked bag for Shetland….just need a spot to drop them off or ship them from Shetland…

Walking and knitting are getting me through a particularly traumatic year. This idea is wonderful.
I’m in the UK and would love to send my surplus circular needles. What is the address please?

I was putting together a starter kit for friend of mine at work and the local Oxfam shop had a box full of unpaired knitting needles in their back room & let me rummage through and take what I wanted for free!! Mostly straight needles but I got her a pair of needles from 3mm to 6mm.
I could nip back to see if they will let me take the rest of their hands!

Yes, I have needles to spare, some inherited from my mum, who was a keen knitter all her life. It would be great if others could make use of them ….. would make her very happy if she knew 🙏🧶 Please send postal address x

Small wooden dowels work nice for needles . Brought to a point on one end of course.

Can someone from Canada donate? I have a number of spare needles that I would love to find a new set of hands!

For people with very old needles in UK sizes that’s about a 9/10 to a 5 or thereabouts.

I’ve had a little root around Kate and I’ve found a few both circular and straight, some were free gifts on the front of knitting magazines, so more than happy to post them to you.

So glad to help, and de-stash at the same time! I have straight metal needles, and some Prym circs which you are welcome to. May even have some birch straights, but I haven’t looked at straights for a long time. The Prym circs aren’t very flexible, but they would be good for starting out. Let me know if they are any good.Best WishesLena

I’ve often seen baskets of knitting needles in uk charity shops many in english sizes so guages might help too. Odd single could also be collected and paired up.
I’ve always found myself knitting when under stress or feeling low. At the moment i am knitting a lot following my 95year old mother falling and breaking her leg. She is now recovering well at home but I’m busy sorting out long term care arrangements to make as shes less mobile. Helps me relax

Hi! I notice my local church fairs/ sales/ flea markets often have huge containers of knitting needles donated. You all or maybe your UK readers might find them there. I would send but I am in the USA.

This is a great idea. I have tons of needles I could donate, but I live in Canada. I think the shipping might be a bit expensive, but I can check.

I suspect the shipping may be prohibitive, Jacqueline! Perhaps there’s a similar group local to you that you might be able to donate your spares to?

I too live in Canada and was wondering about shipping costs. Please post the outcome!
