Creative / customer support

This part-time role (suitable for remote /flexible working) involves providing support to our small creative team in 3 key areas: 

1. Creative support:

The successful candidate will work closely with KDD’s creative director developing individual hand-knitting designs, pattern collections, and larger projects (clubs). The creative support aspect of the role involves: 

– swatching

– test knitting

– sample knitting

– managing KDDs test / sample knitting pool

– managing the pattern update process

2. Customer support / administration:

The successful candidate will act as the main interface between KDD and its customers all over the world. The customer support aspect of the role involves:

– co-ordinating and managing club subscriptions

– supporting knitters with queries about KDD patterns

– supporting customers with queries about KDD yarns / colour choices / substitutions

– supporting customers with queries about KDD books and other products

– providing technical support and help for customers having difficulty with the downloading or ordering process

3. Company support

The successful candidate will play a key role in KDDs small, interconnected team, working closely with colleagues and supporting the broader aims of the company. The company support aspect of the role involves:

– fielding and / or responding to media  / industry enquiries

– co-ordinating with our creative director  (developing design plans and project overviews)

– co-ordinating with our warehouse manager (raising & troubleshooting issues arising from the customer order dispatch / delivery process; passing on wholesale enquiries) 

– co-ordinating with our director of operations (stock management and re-ordering / pattern updates / book reprints / photographic print enquiries)

– co-ordinating with our Ravelry moderator (dealing with customer queries passed on from Ravelry;  providing back-up / additional moderating support where necessary)

Necessary attributes of the successful candidate

Is passionately interested in, engaged by, and has great working knowledge of, hand knitting and its diverse, global, contemporary culture

Has good all-round knowledge of KDD’s catalogue of patterns & in-house pattern writing style

Enjoys swatching / testing out knitterly ideas 

Likes knitting (a lot)

Has good familiarity with KDDs yarns, books, & other products 

Has an appreciation / understanding of KDDs company ethos /  values / aesthetic 

Is committed to furthering KDDs company ethos / values

Has competence in  / an ability to work efficiently with:  online platforms like Ravelry and Mailchimp; our shop software (shopwired) mail software (fastmail); word processing (pages or word); spreadsheets (excel); PDFs (acrobat or preview); video conferencing (facetime / zoom) group chat (imessage)

20-25 hours per week (flexible, by negotiation)


£26,000-£32,500 (£25 hourly equivalent)

UK employees can choose to be enrolled in KDDs pension scheme. If the successful candidate is located overseas, they can opt to receive monthly pension contributions (equivalent to KDD scheme contributions).
